Ms. Violet Kakyomya presented her letter of credence to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. George Chaponda in Lilongwe on Wednesday (January 21, 2015). Hon. Chaponda welcomed Ms. Kakyomya as the new UNFPA Representative in Malawi and said that UNFPA has been a long-standing partner for Malawi. Ms. Kakyomya starts her tour of duty immediately, replacing Mr. Athanase Nzokirishaka.

The ceremony took place in the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and amongst the dignitaries were other senior officials in the Ministry. Hon. Chaponda hailed the good work UNFPA is doing in Malawi in the areas of population, maternal health, HIV and Gender. Ms. Kakyomya, who presented her letter of credence from the UNFPA Executive Director, Dr Babatunde Osotimehin to the Foreign Affairs Minister, expressed appreciation to the Government of Malawi for allowing her to contribute to the country's development process and vowed to exert all her effort to this goal. She is looking forward to the continued good working relationship between UNFPA, Malawi Government and all other stakeholders.
